Francesco studied Material Science at ETH Zurich, both bachelor and master's degrees, with focus on synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles and magnetism. After having completed his bachelor thesis in the group of Prof. Gambardella, he worked at 'Avantama' and conducted his civil service in the group of Dr. Battaglia at Empa Dübendorf, where he was involved in the characterization and assembly of Li-ions batteries. During his master's studies, Francesco improved his understanding of the nanoparticles surface chemistry. Specifically, functionalization of hafnium oxide nanoparticles with biocompatible cyclic polymer was the topic of his first master project. After having completed his second master project in the group of Prof. Löffler, Francesco joined our group for his master thesis with the aim to combine magnetic properties and optical transparency in highly doped hafnium oxide.

Since May Francesco has been part of our team. He will work on the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 under the supervision of Dr. Battaglia at Empa Dübendorf. A warm welcome!
