Florian studied Engineering Science (bachelor´s program) and Materials Science (master´s program) both at the University of Salzburg and the Technical University of Munich and graduated from the double degree program with the degree Diplom-Ingenieur. He continued with a PhD project focused on the synthesis and characterization of hierarchically organized porous silica and carbon materials under the supervision of Prof. Nicola Hüsing at the University of Salzburg, where he earned his PhD degree in 2019. He successfully applied for an Erwin-Schrödinger-Stipendium at the Austrian Science Fund to work as a Postdoc in the group of Prof. Markus Niederberger in collaboration with the group of Prof. André Studart at the ETH Zurich.

Florian´s current research is focused on porous metallic materials with complex macroscopic shapes and a designed microstructure.
